THIS WEEK IN LOCAL MUSIC
Come to this page for upcoming events in the local music scene, plus brief reviews on bygone happenings.

My friend Derek Rando usually plays weekly at these Beverly hot spots....

The Pickled Onion Rantoul St.
Kitty O'Sheas Cabot St.

APPEARING SOON!!!
Be sure to check out your hometown's local music scene if you get the chance. Updates will still be made here, but far less often.
  THINGS YOU MAY HAVE MISSED
Tues. 8/28 Club Passim: By far the best, talent rich Open Mic I've ever been to. If you have any chance at all, do not miss this. It's in Harvard Square (Palmer St.) and starts at 8pm every Tuesday. There's a cover....well worth it!

Sat. 7/28 Starbucks: My 2nd gig here...went pretty well. An hr/30m set, featuring 4 or 5 of my newer songs. Some of my friends showed.....I need to get my CD out ASAP, maybe get some fans who don't actually know me!

Weds 5/9 Sugar Shack: One of the best in a long time. The show started with John Desrosiers playing a few of his fantastic originals, and even covering one of my songs. I can't say how cool it was to have my best friend and a musician I highly respect play my music....very cool. It was request night for me, so I played a few covers and a few originals too. A very pleasant surprise was Static Mind showing up to do an acoustic set....oh how I wish they would show up more often, they sounded great. Will Brierly was next with an energetic, highly entertaining combination of covers, originals, and improvs....not to mention using the mic stand to play some slide guitar! The Frye brothers played some excellent original reggae, first as a duo, then with Adam Frye going solo for a few. Please come down to the Sugar Shack if you haven't been.....there's so many fantastic, creative original performers, and they're all right here. Come and check it out!

Sat 5/5 Starbucks Beverly, MA: My 1st outside school gig...went incredibly well. :) Played an hr/45m set of almost all originals.....recorded it, and will probably start giving out this show rather than my "Thoughts & Musings" tape.....it sounds a lot better!

Thurs 5/3 Fox Hall Common: My 1st real show here at UMass! A whopping crowd of about 10 (all my friends), but still a really good time. John Desrosiers lent his drumming & vocal talents to my songs and added a new dimension to them. We played a few covers, a few improvs....just a fun time even with nobody there. :P The rock show across the hall had the crowds....obviously I missed that show, but everyone seemed to be having a good time. Thanks to Will Brierly for getting me the playing time.

Weds 4/25 Sugar Shack: Very thin crowd, but still a good time. Something new with a goth metal quartet opening. Adam Frye played a cool solo set, and Jeff played a few good ones too. I played an extended set (the Frye brothers had requests...it's nice to have fans, hehe), and Crystal Caron repeated her fantastic acappella performance.

Mon 4/23 Fox Hall: Well, I missed it too....but everyone coming back to Bourgeois Hall said that Static Mind, Miss Fortune, and Missing Joe were fantastic. Please, if anyone goes to these Mon & Thurs events, I can't make them....if you want to write a brief summary, I'll post it here and credit you!

Weds 4/18 Sugar Shack: Not a very good night from my POV. Kind of a loud crowd, but good performances from John Desrosiers and his younger brother Ryan. Had to go before I could see Will Brierly play....he's always entertaining, I'm sure he was great. Be sure to come this Weds, hopefully for a better night.

Weds 4/11 Sugar Shack: A fantastic night with great acoustic performers (Nick Arsenault, John Desrosiers being highlights; also a cool 'Redemption Song' from the Frye Brothers), poetry, and some wonderful acappella singing from birthday girl Crystal Caron. I played a few, including an acappella version of Tom Petty's 'Won't Back Down'; acappella is some nervewracking shit. A good crowd; if you missed it catch it next Weds!

Tues 4/10 Fox Hall: Open Mic Night! These things used to be packed....where is everybody? I played a few tunes to a huge crowd of 4 people (hehe), and then kicked back to watch Will Brierly and his band kick some ass. It's a shame there weren't more people there....if you have the chance to see Will at the Sugar Shack (or his band in Providence this Fri!) you should certainly try.
